Had no Idea your hand was burned. If you keep the hand elevated, the pain is less. Many years ago my husband burned his arm about the same way, luckily I was working in a burn unit at a hosp. in S. C. No more trips to hosp. but it took a good while to heal. Thank God for Silvadine. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Love the Beverly's. You're a good kid!

I had a similar burn this past spring from a similar accident. Being in the US, I had to go buy my own burn cream and non-stick bandages, do my own daily wound care and evaluate whether it was healing correctly or if I needed to go back to the physician. Glad you are getting better care than I did! My friend had a burn on her hand from a kitchen accident in a hospital, it took her months to heal properly with the physical therapy to stretch the finger ligaments to full motion again - do your PT like religion!!

Next time you go to start a pile of trash fire. Use diesel. Burns nice general does NOT explode like that. OLD TIMER trick.
Folks NEVER light a fire with Gasolene/Petrol if you must use something to get it started PLEASE use Kerosene/Paraffin. See that, I am bilingual now. LOL!😆 Hope you are out of pain now, an healing. I was badly burned on my arm when kid, it is no fun at all. It was caused by boiling water.

Burns will keep burning for like 30 minutes after the exposure. Good practice is to actually submerge the burn under water for about 30 minutes. I’ve found this reduces the damage immensely!!

I did the same thing you did... Well my cuz blew me up... I didn't get as bad as you but it did burn all my hair on my face.. arms and 1/2 my hair before I stop dropped and rolled... It really works... It put the fire on my clothes out and saved some of my hair.... At least I wasn't bald after I had the burnt ends cut off. And thank God I didn't get burned as bad as you. At least you used gas... He put gas and diesel both and it was like a bigggg bomb and burned so hot.

It's unfortunate that the guy and gasoline gene has not mutated since my day. I had thrown some gasoline into a burn barrel, threw in a lite match. Nothing happened, so I looked in. Something happened. The next day, I reported for Basic Training in the US Navy with no eyebrows, or nose hair and a receding hairline and what appeared to be a sunburn. Good luck to you. Im a mechanic and had many a close call with gas. Never been burnt but just the fumes will catch from a lil bit away. Gotta be careful!!! Make a line running at least 10 feet away or more then light it. Nice to see someone bringing relief to pain instead of bringing pain suffering to people and animals like our US govt
As a firefighter, I can say with confidence that Graeme is very lucky to not be much more seriously injured. While the burn is quite serious, it could have been in a far worse location, or even spread across much more of his body. This is why every firefighter out there will tell anyone to not use gas to start or build a fire.

A slight detonation? That is why you should never play with pure oxygen as refreshing as it may sound.
If anyone is reading this, flash burns are no joke. FLOG! Don't use petrol/gasoline/naphtha around open flames. All of them are distilled to evaporate at super low temps and will blow up faster than you can duck away. Use a brush burner torch to get burn piles started. So much safer. Kerosene/diesel on a cold pile if it is below freezing.

Ive never seen this here in Australia.
I also use vet wrap for injuries for people in our household. I'm sensitive to the adhesive on most Band-Aids and it gives me a rash. So sometimes I need to use vet wrap instead.

Craig, speedy recovery. I burned my finger and thumb last year when cleaning up a job site. An idiot with a torch cut a steel block and didn’t mark as hot. He left the site dirty and I didn’t realize what he had done. My left hand was nasty. I grab the block if steel and through a glove it torched my entire thumb and the inside of my left index. Immediately I knew it was bad, the worst was the rubber from the glove . It was molten, and sticky and just kept burning.. I hid the injury, it was my first day with that company. I was on site for the next week 17 hour days. Mostly lifting steel Beams. It was more Than a month before it healed.
So is it in future plans to have two rigs and have Graeme lead one team and Craig another?
